I live for landscapes and moments to reenact in my work and utilize memories of places I’ve been or events I’ve seen: a hike in the mountains, a tornado in the plains, a rainstorm in the highlands, a whale pod in the inlet. The result is rarely as literal as the original so a new hybrid-scape is crafted. The works are affected by atmospheres and utilizing a wood-, soda-, gas-, electric-, pit kiln aids my search for solutions of surface, distance, color shape.

Chas completed his MFA from Wichita State University in 2004. He has worked as a professor/potter/soccer coach since then in various states. “I had a great upbringing and decided to create a life doing the things I loved as a child.”

I work in clay for the tactile quality and versatility the spectrum of the medium has. I can be sculptor, painter, drawer, tiler, potter. I have had a visceral connection with the materials from the first touch and decided it needed to remain.
