About the artist

Biography

Nature is an inspiration for my artwork. All the Native American tribes that dwell around us are also a source of creativity. I see my colors, textures and shapes in the environment around me .

Calligraphy:
I have always loved letters as an art form, as well as a way to express ideas and feelings. This I try to represent in my cards, prints, and original pieces shown here in the gallery. I have been a calligrapher for over 35 years, and loved teaching my art. I was the Calligraphy Instructor here at SAC from 1989- 2003. From there I was an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ from 2003- 2007. I always thought my students were some of my finest teachers. Now original pieces, designing handmade books, and commissions keep me expanding my calligraphic horizons.

Ceramics:
Porcelain is the clay “ with which I like to play.” My functional pieces, such as the bowls and hand carved mugs, are all high fired with lead free glazes . Safe to eat from, as well as aesthetically pleasing. However I do like the bright colors of the low fire glazes used in my some of my folk art pieces and especially my masks. Everywhere I have travelled, I found indigenous people creating some image of the unknown. I too am a mask maker, large and small.

I look forward to a long relationship with the spirit of my clay and those who appreciate its beauty
